As a heterosexual male in his 40s....

Liked it fine.

Isn't one of my top 100.
Might never bother to watch it again.
But I was entertained enough for a couple of hours.

reply

Oh gawd no. As a heterosexual married couple in our fifties we both despised this stinker of a movie. Unbelievable crap.

What has your sexuality got to do with this movie?

What has your sexuality got to do with this movie?

yeah hahahaha WTF

reply

Because this is essentially a chick flick and a woman's idea of how men should be.

reply

How would you know what a woman's idea of men should be?

reply

Well, the woman who wrote the movie kind of made it clear that this is what she thought what men should be. I think he was referring to this.

I like the movie as well.

reply

Watch the movie, Stirchley and you will understand what I said, why I said it and how I meant it.

reply

he watched 'The Intern'.

reply

exactly right, men don't behave this way in real life, thankfully. This was like a feminists wet dream. In their fantasies, men are lap dogs.

reply

Because this is essentially a chick flick and a woman's idea of how men should be.

No it wasn't. Just because the movie depicted a hard-working woman and her stay-at-home husband raising their daughter, doesn't mean this was a woman's idea "how men should be". The family dynamics were only a plot point, nothing else.

Hope changes everything.

As a 60 year old male- this is a good movie to recommend to my Mom- who has, shall we say, a more forgiving critical eye.

reply

My husband (64) liked it more than me! I thought it was a fun little movie. I was somewhat disappointed in the ending. He didn't seem to care.

reply

Hahaha Indy, my mom liked this stinker as well.

reply

I liked it because I liked the actors. Who doesn't love DeNiro? And I've had humongous crushes on Rene and Anne for forever. So as a heterosexual male, I can give a thumbs up to this movie too.

It's not great, it's not amazing, but it's a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

As a heterosexual male in his 50s, I found it preachy, obvious, shallow, trite, clichéd, predictable and dull. The leads are flat like their characters. It's The Devil Wears Prada with all the life squeezed out of it.

reply

I like 'Prada.' The characters and the story were interesting. I like De Niro in the Intern but, as with most Nancy Meyers' male characters, he just seemed neutered. Who castrates male more, Nancy Meyers or Paul Feig?

reply

i'm also in your demographic. i'm about 3/4 of the way thru the movie and am enjoying it also. i'm assuming deniro's character will probably get the CEO job the company has been interviewing for. deniro is likable, hathaway is good in her role, the supporting cast is solid. it's been entertaining..

reply

it was a shallow movie with a strangely sexist theme. it was so vague that it didn't really seem like the point, but without it - then the movie REALLY doesnt have a point.

i thought feminism was about men and women being equal, not men being 'chivalrous' and women being powerful or any kind of stereotype about any gender. this was embarrassing and sad to watch.

feel like it was a recent movie with ideals from the 60s or something.
Ugh.

reply

The movie was crap, but not for the reasons you cite. Feminism had nothing to do with it.

reply

someone suggested it was a feminist movie. that's the only reason i mentioned that.

but it did have sexist vibes. i don't care if you don't see it. Sexist stereotypes.

I thought it was 'delightful'.

Sure it was overtly feminist (with a small nod to how nurtured girls have been over boys to cause men's current crapness), but I somehow enjoyed it anyway.

I choose to believe what I was programmed to believe
