Did Ben actually get paid?

An intern works for free, is that right? Despite the fact that Ben pretty much saved the CEO's business and marriage and also travelled all over America with her, nobody mentioned that he should get any actual money?

reply

Some interns work for free I'd say most get paid. I don't remember if that was mentioned but he seemed successful so I don't think he was concerned about money.

reply

Internships are normally unpaid.
Money-wise he is set, he doesn't care about getting paid. He just needs something to do, retirement doesn't suit him.

I understand the desire to get experience, however corporations and the whole intern system tends to exploit workers a great deal. It is far too easy to abuse the system and interns are often exploited.

reply

Jeez, and most corporations are so respectful and concerned about their employees. Ever since corporations became "people too", their entire human relations creed is to use people until they're used up, or use employees until they become too expensive, like when it's time for a promotion or raise. Corporations exist to abuse the system and exploit employees.

reply

I agree 100%

A lot of companies refer to probationary employees as interns. They are paid but they are not locked in. That way if they don't work out they can have them removed without prejudice and it doesn't look as bad on your resume as fired. Someone also told me it means the employer is spared the unemployment tax penalty but I don't know if that is true.

reply

This the main reason I gave this 4/10 I would understand if he did interesting work for free but he was basically a freaking servant. Is it really that easy to get slave in this day and age even have them commit crimes like breaking and entering. Let me get this straight internship=slavery. Great f'ed up message,

reply

...it's called suspension of disbelief. Not to mention they never actually say whether or not the interns are paid.

reply

Umm... yes. Companies abuse student interns all the time. It's pretty much industry standard..

reply

He deserved to get paid, no question. However, as sappy as it may be, it's likely he found the experience to be so rewarding that money didn't matter to him at the end. I mean, he got something that's arguably better than money: a new honey! :D

You want something corny? You got it!
