Is it worth watching?

Read the book, thought it was pretty solid. Loved Argo, great film.

Should I go for this one or should I pass?

reply

It's a solid film. I really enjoyed the way it was shot. I'd say it well worth watching if you like prohibition gangster films.

No! Save your money. Remember Miller's Crossing? Watch it again. This tries and fails to be Miller's Crossing...

During this movie I wanted " one to my brain..." It just sucked. It tried to be Miller's Crossing but it seemed so weak in the plot and script, acting was sleep walking..
I walked out when the KKK arrived with the clefed lip and the inbred stare... why go down that KKK inbred road?
What were the subplots? What did I miss after the nitwit started throwing bombs?

reply

If you read the book and enjoyed it, yes. It's not as good as the book, but it's also not a mess some are saying. It's at worst a 6/10

I love prohibition/20s/ gangster type films but this was terrible. It started with promise during the Boston scenes but as soon as they go to Florida it's confusing and quite boring in parts. Perhaps if you've read the book so you're aware of the storyline that might help .

Even though i love the genre and Affleck, this was terrible from start to finish.
No suspense, no exciting action, cardboard acting, very disappointing!

That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullsh*t

reply

I loved the movie.

9/10.

Yes, go. Especially if you liked the book. Affleck is four-outta-four now for me, and he really seems to nail Lehane's stuff. No idea why the reviews aren't much better, I was digging it throughout.

Even impressed with his acting here - couldn't initially envision him as Coughlin, but he was spot on. The whole cast, really. Plus, it's just pretty to look at; stunning cinematography.
