Real life Rudy, Rocky, 42

Only California state HS player of the year (and top5 Cali Mr. Basketball), EVER, to receive zero d1 scholarship offers.
Takes Harvard to its best season in 70 years. Faces viscous racist taunts regularly. Goes undrafted.
Cut by 2 NBA teams who didn't really give him a chance. Sleeping on couches. About to be cut by NY but in his one opportunity saves the Knicks who were 8-15 at the time.

Real life Rudy, Rocky, The Express.
A lot of haters here or voting the movie down never even saw this movie yet..

Haters questioning the definition of rags to riches :
- you are here before seeing the movie just to hate
- it's hard to deny he faced and overcame discrimination, confirmation bias, and racism at every level of his basketball career
- his underdog story has very broad appeal to Americans of all backgrounds and races
- the hate against him is not dissimilar to that against other not commonly seen things like a white running back or a black president

I saw it at SXSW. It was well done. They dug up a bunch of old footage from when he was young.

Seriously this is a real-life underdog story of the same epic proportions of classic fictional movies. As Steve Nash said, if you hate on Jeremy Lin you hate on all that's good in sports. This kid not only was an underdog because of racial discrimination, but is so humble and generous, and also went from sleeping on couches to finally making it in his ONLY shot (like that 8-mile movie, making the most of your one opportunity, for Eminem fans)

Northern California Division II Player of the Year

Lets not get too excited here.

You're ignorant. It's a BIG deal. Cali is a massive state, he was the only HS player of the year ever to receive ZERO d1 offers.

Also....

"Joining Lin as first team all-state picks were the other six Mr. Basketball finalists – senior Ryan Anderson from Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills, junior James Harden of Artesia, junior Taylor King of Mater Dei, senior Chase Budinger from La Costa Canyon of Carlsbad"

http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/california/post/_/id/631/jeremy-lin-and-the-2006-all-state-team

Players named to 1st team all state in the huge state of California all get tons of D1 offers. Stop trying to marginalize what was CLEARLY discrimination and confirmation bias because he was Asian. If he were black or white he would easily start at UCLA or Stanford out of high school, then get drafted.

reply

Northern California Division II Player of the Year... Not HS Player of the Year.

Stop throwing around "High School Player of the Year" as if he was the best player in California.

Lin is already irrelevant in the NBA.

You're a clown, clearly a troll. You claiming Lin is "already irrelevant in the NBA" exposes you as just another ignorant Lin hater with bias and prejudice no matter what he does. I see you also previously posted that Lin is nothing but a "DivisionII college player". Lin just put up a triple double in only 29 minutes, look up who else in the NBA has put up a triple double in 29 mins or less - the list is half Hall of Famers and the others were all all-stars. Pretty pathetic you troll these message boards as well. You sound to me like those bigots who claim Obama, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, etc are only there because they are [black/white]. Basically a bigot who only sees his race, automatically thinks he can't play like all the other biased people, and then thinks he's only in the league because he's Asian for marketing. Give zero credit to skill or talent.

It's clear you didn't even read the link I posted because not only was Lin Cali State HS Player of the Year, but he was also named to the state's All-State 1st Team. All the other players named to 1st Team in the entire state received multiple D1 offers. He was also one of a half dozen finalists for Mr.Basketball in the state, of course the only one again to not receive any D1 scholarship offers. It's just flat out silly that you continue to deny him being Asian had nothing to do with being passed over by every school for a D1 scholarship. Lin didn't want to play in the ivies and Harvard doesn't give sports scholarships period.

reply

The clips from when he was a kid were adorable.

reply

Can't wait until Lin leaves Houston and shines just like Lowry and Dragic. McHale is clueless about point guards.

reply

I enjoyed it a lot. The story's even crazier than what was well known at the height of everything last year. Quite well done.

reply

I don't hate him, hez worked hard and done well but I hate his fanatic fanz who put him on a pedestal and made a doc on him bec they think hez an Asian MJ when hez not. Reality. Back to reality. Hez got a lucky short run daz all.

People have pretty realistic evaluations of him as a player. Nobody thinks he's Asian Jordan, stop exaggerating. On the other hand he is consistently undervalued by people who don't see his potential. Story of his life as an Asian basketball player

reply

U r wrong. Ppl involved in documentary do not have realistic view of him and thinkz he is Asian mj.

Why even have a doc of him if they don't think hez Asian mj? But daz wat they think. Many, many players mo deservin of a doc bec many, many players r better than him. So no I don't think hez undervalued. But overrated yes.

I don't deny his linsanity moment. But daz all it wuz, a brief moment in time. Mediocre player he really is...accept da troof.

reply

You seem like an unstable crazy person with an unhealthy obsession against Jeremy Lin, based on your recent threads

reply

And ur an obsessed Lin fan who cannot see reality and will not accept any neg opinionz of him.

Da troop is he had 1 short and lucky run. Nobody talkz bout him anymo. And it wuz a waste of celluloid and time 2 make a film on him.
