Its personal, no speeches

I can`t help to think back when Ben pointed out that, because it was personal - the "speeches" or excessive talking if you like would be the end of him and I guess it sort of was. Had he not pulled back and just shot them right away he might actually have spotted the last one and gotten away with it.

Obviously this wouldn`t fit with how the movie was supposed to end, but something to think about if you already didnt.

Well said.

It was sadly inevitable that he would resort to long speeches thus exposing himself. If he'd just shot first without talking things might've been different. Dwight had nothing left to lose though. I think he'd already figured out that he probably wouldn't survive the feud. He was prepared to die.

We might be left to think that what Dwight wanted all along was the opportunity for the "speech." I think that if I were in a similar situation, I wouldn't be satisfied with the killing--I'd want to rub it in the person's face first.

Of course, in this case, Dwight was more or less apologizing to the people for having to kill them. He wanted to explain why it was happening and give them a chance to negotiate.

Yeah, he was far more decent than those backwoods idiots who would gladly kill over an affair then blame the entire thing on what they probably identify as 'liberals'.
