I don't think the Grandfather knew his wife would get her henchman to kill Iris. His wife is doing it all out of revenge because her husband loves his mistress and had a son with her. And also doing it so her son would be the sole beneficiary to his father's estate, as Ray is entitled to a share if it came to light he is Twan's son.
