You need to watch the whole film. The party scene in the beginning is referring to the "wildlife on the balcony" which is directly related to the flamingos which appear on his balcony in the 3rd act of the film. The film is about life and what is the true meaning of beauty in this life and how does one go about finding it.
If you are looking for a film about Italian stereotypes (beautiful food, beautiful architecture, beautiful clothes, beautiful tuscany, beautiful beaches and people in aprons cooking pasta just like "mama's cooking" -- then this is probably not the film for you). I will not try to convert your preferences for film on a Internet board. There are lots of films out there and you will find the one you like.
"Oh, Mama, can this really be the end, to be stuck inside of mobile
with the memphis blues again"
