Would love to see more of QUIRKE

I watched all three episodes back to back and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gabriel Byrne is still a sensation to watch even in his 60s. I've loved this actor since first seeing him in Excalibur back in 1980.

I loved the vulnerability of this character Quirke knowing that he is a professional but still had his demons and other flaws, which made him more human and empathetic in his chosen profession as a Pathologist. Can we assume that in Ireland in the 1950s he was basically the M.E.?

I guess the three episodes is all we'll ever see. But I would love to see more.

QUIRKE really captured the era of that time very well. Watching it you felt as if you were walking right beside him.

Yes, there really are some undeveloped stories we could hear more about. Like Quirke's dad's love life before he married his wife, etc. That was left a bit mysterious.

His assistant Sinclair could be worth a storyline. And not just one in which he wants Quirke's job! haha

A cursory look at the list of Quirke novels reveals that there seem to be 3 more in the series that presumably could be made into films. I saw a big spoiler in one write up about one of the books, so did not look further. May have missed some.

Can't imagine who else could do Quirke justice, now that we've met Gabriel's Quirke....if they had to recast it.

Who would be good as Quirke if they had to recast?

A few come to mind, but they are Northern Ireland actors, so their accents wouldn't be quite right, so they'd have to use Republic accents. But Liam Neeson and Jimmy Nesbitt might work if they aged them a tad...

John Lynch? Pierce Brosnan? Stephen Rae? Liam Cunningham? Ciaran Hinds? Aidan Quinn?

Hm!

I will be shocked if this returns for a second series. It was pretty bad.

Its that man again!!

I loved this series. You had to pay attention. It also was written by the Great Andrew Davies. Davies wrote House of Cards and many other fabulous British Series.

Even a great writer can have the odd dud.

This was one from Davies.
