Fascinating show about man-made destruction of nature

I appreciated the time Ken Burns spent explaining the cause of the dust bowl -- the fragile territory with little rain, the land held together by Buffalo grass, the poor plowing methods that all but guaranteed the soil would blow away.

I didn't hear it mentioned, although it might have been, the damaging effect cattle had on the native grasses. Bison stay in one places for several days and graze intensively, then move on, which allows the grass to rebound. Grazing cattle in the same place depletes the resource much faster.

In contrast to other posters, I thoroughly enjoyed the personal recollections of eyewitnesses who lived through the dust bowl. Excellent documentary and thought-provoking.

I agree! There was also an excellent PBS doc in the late 80's about how the interior of Australia was ruined by the foreign plants and animals brought there from elsewhere. They never air that one anymore.
