WTF is with the retarded doom and gloom score?

It's ridiculous.

Agreed its very distracting. They should have gone with some music from each time period or at least the 80s and 1990 scenes could have used some of that.

It's designed to build suspense in otherwise uneventful scenes.

I disagree. I think it was excellent at creating a somber and sinister mood, almost Twin Peaks-ish.
