Never read the book.....so I can't make comparisons as to that.
However, this is one of my favorite Hallmark movies because of the casting. I thought everyone was perfect for their roles, most especially the brothers. They really did have that "brotherly rapport" and the connection was believable.
Maggie was awesome and I loved the actress(Eloise Mumford?), and was happily surprised to see she's in another Hallmark Christmas movie, which I haven't watched yet. I've not seen her in anything else, but I thought she was perfect for this role, and when she told the story of the Fairy House to Holly, I admit I teared up. Her river dancing added a cute touch too.
All in all, I thought the whole cast was perfect, and I'd love Hallmark to make a sequel. Perhaps Maggie & Mark are married/pregnant, Scott and Alex have girlfriends, Holly would of course be older....so maybe it's a story of the other brothers getting married, Holly maybe not approving of one of the brothers girlfriends, and the "right" one comes alomg....maybe Scott, who finds out his true love is Carla(?), Marks co- worker, and they end up together? And of course Holly has to adjust to a new sibling.....possibly one who arrives early, say...on a mad dash to the hospital on Christmas, culminating with the baby being a girl named.....Victoria?
Whew.....totally got off subject there. Sorry. My point was that I'd love to see a sequel to this movie, as it was, IMO, one of the few Hallmark Christmas movies I'd like to see a sequel to, along with the perfect cast. I watch them all, every year, so for me this is a rarity.
Btw, I thought the actor who plays Scott was the same guy who is in the new Hallmark movie this year, Angel of Christmas....I was excited thinking it was him, as I did love his acting in the Holly movie, cool banter, and an infectious smile. So I was surprised to see the Angel actor is Jonathan Sharfe(?), and I thought....oh, the Scott dude went blonde. I've never seen either actor in anything else, so I didn't know it was 2 different ppl. Haven't watched the Angel one yet, but have it taped. I guess I'll see the difference between the 2 when I do watch it, the smiles seemed so similar when I saw the trailers for Angel, I just assumed.
One more thing...I taped a bunch of holiday movies last year, and Holly was one of the few I kept and watched many times well into summer while recovering from major surgeries. Predictable, yes. Suspension of belief, yes. Feel good......yes! This movie in particular was my go-to on many a rough day. For that, I'm thankful.
Sorry for the super long, off track post. Best wishes for a Happy Holiday.
