Once again...

...a perfectly good german movie gets remade by hollywood.
The original is called "Barfuss", a really heart warming an funny movie with Til Schweiger and Mrs. Wokalek.

Let's see how that works out. The last Hollywood Remake of a GOOD German movie I can think of ist "The Experiment" and let's be honest it sucked big time.

Sounds like a bad idea. There are good american versions of european films (best is probably "The girl with the dragon tattoo", even though I consider this one as an adaptation of the book rather than a remake), but I can't see how "Barfuß" is going to work as a remake.
Also, were there really that many remakes based on german films? Can't really remember any except for "Das Experiment". Well, "Das doppelte Lottchen" had several American versions...

Don't forget "Der Himmel über Berlin" being turned into "City of Angels"!

Scent Of A Woman is a remake of the italian movie 'Profumo Di Donna'.

Yeah, I agree!! The original one was very enjoyable to watch and actually i really like it. But very rarely have i seen a hollywood remake that maintains or retains the "it" of the original. yeah, it's diff. culture and so on, but mostly the movies look too simple and one dimensional. But, on the positive side, evan rachel wood is good actress and scott speedman is really good looking, so.... maybe it will not suck that much :)

reply

No it didnt sucked at all. Scott was great and evan really sweet.

The original is one of my favourites. My jaw just dropped when I saw they've made a remake. Now I know how the frensh feel when this happens.

This looks aweful and not at all funny.

But I agree, I like the american "girl with a dragon tattoo" more. That's solely based on Fincher and Rooney Mara, tho.

A Til Schweiger movie that gets remade without Schweiger can only get better.

Actually, Til Schweiger is the "associate producer" of this movie! Interesting, isnt it?

reply

Hate to tell you, but German movies are not very high quality

reply

Okay, but you all do realise that the original movie was based on a short story by an English writer, right? And that that writer adapted his own short for this movie? Come on, people. I know that American adaptations don't have a good track record, but this movie isn't so bad as to deserve all this hate. I've seen much worse.

You heart me? What is that? Is that like I love you for pussies?

reply

I watched it on Netflix and it was called "The Wedding Guest" and on IMDB it is called "Barefoot". I was just wondering why.

So does Germany set the bar for movies? If it is a Hollywood remake, it just can't be good?

Exactly. Plus, what no-one seems to take into account, is that the German version would have zero point zero something penetration in the US. And the rest of the English-speaking world, for that matter.
