Is there a single likeable character?

Seriously...

James is a bitch pretty much the whole movie. I was really hoping when he confronted the people who were trying to steal their supplies that he would finally sack up but he begged for his life instead. Just... Ugh.

Lily was just so goddamn aloof it was irritating. Not a care in the world, which is a fine attitude if your 18, but in your 30s? With a kid? Grow up. She had real problems in her life and marriage and refused to face them like an adult.

Lev? Does he even count. He had like 20 lines, 4 of which were character developement. He was a token (autistic?) hacker? The hell?

Nick is a perpetual ass. I just wanted him to get blasted in the face the whole film. He's married yet hung up on his ex-girlfriend who is married with a kid? And he decides to go for it? Pretty sure that's not what Benjie said...

And Benjie? That dude was the definition of butthurt liberal who can't see the forest for the trees. His only redeeming action was to tell Becky about Nick's high-school *beep*

And then there's Becky. Jesus roller-blading cheist, what a *beep* bitch she was. She was the worst damn character. She came right out the gates being a stupid bitch. The whole movie she was just a bitch.

And Ariel... Can't forgot her punk rock self. Where to begin, how about her liberal use of sex. Throwing it around and just assuming everyone wants it. Like when she insinuated that James wanted a blowjob. What? Because he hugged her back? That's a bit of a damn leap... Just a trampy slut who ended up *beep* the group right in the A with those soldier douches.

And the soldiers... I'd like to think that the brave men and women who serve our country will behave in a much better manner than those two did. Of course James turned them away. They were acting sketchy as *beep*. So bad thaf I thought they were pretending to be soldiers and marking houses. Course that would've meant I was watching an exciting apocalypse film.

And the kid... Hannah. Would someone please spank the everloving *beep* out of her? Bitching about Daily Bubble Time and just demanding it. She neads to learn the word "please".

Laura was really the only character who was worth a *beep* She was grounded, her actions founded on realism and not idealism like her compatriots. She acted and reacted in logical ways (for the most part). So she was tolerable.

Still, if I got stuck with this group during the end of days, I'd probably go Lev's initial route and blow my brains out. This movie had so much potential and it was completely wasted.

I only liked Lev to be honest. Everyone else just seemed like they were out to get eachother.

I think Lev was by default the most tolerable character only due to the fact that he talks the least.

But yeah, overall none of them were likable people in any way, shape or form.

That was kind of the point of the movie. Unbearble, selfish douchebags, all of them. And I gotta repeat myself, THAT WAS THE POINT. Usually in such movies, you have heroes and bad guys. The heroes are often reluctant but heroic nevertheless. The bad guys eat other people or something.

Not here. They are far too occupied with their puny little problems to even think about their next door neighbors (who did help them before). They couldn't care less about each other. Yea, not even the ones who are supposed to look out for each other.

Ariel was the only one who got that. She saw right through them in her shallow, stupid way. But at least she's not on a high horse, shouting 'BETTER THAN YOU!!!!' from the top of her lungs. She knows she isn't.

Yup. That went well.

Thank you Paul for getting the point.

I agree!
What a great example to show a mother junkie, as you said even a 18y old girl is more mature than this b*tch, the world was ending and she was acting like a 13 years old pesky kid

Wow, the OP sounds so "likeable" ::sarcasm:: Seriously though, conservative hardass douchebags everywhere in this topic and on this board. And on imdb as a whole. Conservative hardass douchebags here, conservative hardass douchebags there, conservative hardass douchebags everywhere!!!

I think the OP ticked every box for "conservative hardass douchebag cliche" in the book, even insulting a male character for not being "manly" enough, saying a character needed to "grow up", ripping on a character for having an apparent developmental disorder (really?), slut shaming a character, actually using the phrase "butthurt", and finding one character "likeable" for being a logical realist lol Could you be more of a cliche? Are you even human? My God, man.

I read the whole thing, waiting for some ounce of an original personality, some quirk or spark of humanity, but there was sadly none to be found. And the replies aren't much better. Some of you all really take the Social Darwinism thing too far. Hitler would be proud, I guess, so have a cookie. But I couldn't be more unlike another person or group of people. So thanks, imdb - seems I've finally found my polar opposites.

You all are just brainwashed by society into thinking either you're all "alpha males" or "alpha" type people or those type of people are the only ones who can be "likeable". And you think how the "alpha" type people respond in a crisis is how you'd respond. You know, because you watch shows like The Walking Dead and stuff and you all think you're so tough. And you think you have free reign to rip on people who maybe aren't as tough and you think that makes yourself a good person or something.

Ever notice how the people who rip on movie characters for being pretentious and full of themselves...often seem extremely pretentious and full of themselves? And those who rip on movie characters for being "whiney" and not being "grown up"...often seem immaturely whiney and judgmental themselves? Just cry for your blankie while you're at it lol All you're talk of people not "manning up" or "growing up" just comes off like babytalk...like a toddler trying to sound tough. No one's fooled.

You all sure like to babble on and on about how much better than these characters you (think you) are. You all "winners" think you're hot sh_t, don't you? And we're the self absorbed ones? lol Frankly its a little creepy how judgmental you get. I'd hate to be one of your family members or, God forbid, friends. Methinks thou doth protest too much. Or project too much ;-) Interesting facet of humanity, that. Troubling, too. Somehow I think all you conservative hardass douchebags will be the real fall of humanity and trigger the real end of the world. Not the rest of us.

And what was wrong with the hippies anyway? At least they stood (in theory, I wasn't around in their heyday) for something positive, peaceful, and gentle. You know, love your fellow man and all that? The stuff you all probably consider "pussy sh_t" lol I'd be a hippie if I had the "balls" (to use one of your phrases).

Well, congrats to all of you...you've only made me want to see this movie even more. Since it seems to be about how real, actual, flawed human beings would respond in a crisis. Not perfect, "alpha" people who don't even exist in real life. Yes, we're all flawed. Yes, even you, so get over yourself - pansy :-P

So apparently this film's writer is posting on this board and topic? And is he agreeing with some of you? Does that make him conservative? Someone needs to come out with a film that has a POV to counterbalance that (though yes, I still want to see this movie - seems up my alley with realistic, relateable characters whether the writer wanted them to be "likeable" or not).

I'm an aspiring (read: wannabe) writer...the only thing holding me back has been lack of a good idea - basically lack of inspiration and motivation. But maybe I have it now. Maybe I need to write a book and/or film calling all you guys out on your crap. I figure someone has to do it and I need to eat and keep a roof over my head, and no one else seems to be stepping up to the plate, "manning up" as it were and looking out for people like me, so why not me?

And for the record, I think all the main characters in Entourage are "unlikeable" douchebags, too (conservative or not). Different strokes...

Damn, now you all got me judging...

PM me anyone who agrees. Yeah, I know imdb is mostly hardasses, so most won't understand what I'm trying to say, but prove me wrong. I don't read replies to my posts these days. Too busy enjoying my life and spreading my message to worry about getting "butthurt" by some wannabe alpha douche lol

I just saw this and your post really summed up my feelings exactly so I won't even rant about the movie.

Same here. Wasn't just the characters, but the entire thing was incredibly stupid. "Oh look, I got untold amounts of people killed, but its all good because a handful people get to start a hippie commune in California."
