Why are the main characters so willing to break quarantine?

So really... why would this "smart" doctor think it's a great idea to break the quarantine? And the main ERT guy, what the heck dude? They lock down a group of infected people in a store and his first thought is to cut the gate so these infected people can get out?

But the doctor thing bugged me the most. If anyone should know better, it was her. And yet she hid her daughter's infection, exposing people to the virus, and then seemed quite happy to do whatever it took to look after her daughter. It's annoying when movies do that... they portray someone as willing to destroy the entire world to save their son/daughter/spouse. C'mon, really? Are people really that selfish and I'm just living in a bubble? Nobody does anything for the greater good...no one?

Yes, I didn't get those scenes either. Or the soldier allowing the higher-ranking soldier out of the quarantine area just because they were friends. Nevermind the guy, even if unaffected himself, might still be a carrier of the virus and infect others. It's a shame too because the movie otherwise was very good. It could have been even better if they had not made the characters selfish/stupid like that.
