Disappointing Ending

The 5th and final episode ended on a very disappointing and unsatisfying note.
Why on earth did they choose not to show what happened on the TV show? there was a buildup for about 3 episodes, and then they just cut to a bunch of "stills" showing how they had a great time on the beach. Was I supposed to be moved by this final montage? I kept waiting for the real final scene to come, and it didn't. I loved this show, and the ending felt like a rip off.

DEAR TINA: EVERYBODY HATES YOU.

I was only disappointed that it was the last episode... I was shocked that it was over so quickly! Only 2.5 hours (approx.) seems so very short. I don't understand why they shot so few episodes. It wasn't a big budget kind of show - at all. While watching the last episode I had no idea that it was going to be the last one, so that ending (which felt very final) was strange. No, we don't know if he he went onstage or how he did on the show, but clearly his son's mother died after going on the trip to the beach that they discussed earlier in the episode. Considering how little time they had to work with, they did wrap up the story. Yes, I'd like to know what happened at the tv show, but I didn't feel unsatisfied having watched the 5 episodes. I would love to see another, hopefully much longer, second series!

Generally UK shows only have 6 episodes per series, not sure why they only did 5 for the Mimic but I think it worked well. They were telling a story of a period in a man's life and I'd rather it be 5 focused episodes than 10-20 watered down ones. That being said, some things did seem rushed or skipped over since it was so short.

With regards to the original post - I think the point was that we don't need to know if he did it or not, it was said multiple times that his friends and family will love him no matter what and we see the photo montage which shows that they're still very close. Also they probably had a choice between Martin running away and feeling sorry for himself or going on the show and having a typical boring happy ending, so maybe it was better that they left it up to the viewer.

I was a bit disappointed though since I identified with the character to the point that I was genuinely nervous when he was waiting to go on and it sort of fizzled out, but I don't know if I would have liked seeing him going on to be successful since he didn't really want that and it would have been predictable.

I expect UK shows to have fewer episodes and I totally agree, "I'd rather it be 5 focused episodes than 10-20 watered down ones. That being said, some things did seem rushed or skipped over since it was so short." 6 episodes might have let them wrap it up in a more satisfying way. I think they probably had more than enough material in this short story to go 6-8 25 minute episodes.
