Question about release

I noticed that this is only being shown at indie/foreign/arthouse theaters here in the U.S. and not at the cinemas that tend to show a good deal of Indian films. Is there any reason for that and/or is this film mostly for non-Indian viewers?

reply

Well, don't all answer me at one time. Pace yourselves.

As a non-Indian viewer, I really can't respond to this question. I'm responding anyway so you won't feel like you're being ignored. :)

Under another subject line someone mentioned The Lunchbox as an Oscar contender. Perhaps that's why it was released as arthouse venued film instead of primarily being shown as an "Indian film".

reply

You're probably right.

It's not your typical Bollywood movie with songs and fight sequences and teary scenes. No big stars either. It seems to do better with international audiences than in India itself. Bunch of the dialogues are in English. It is for a different audience that's for sure.
