Similiar films?

I really enjoyed the film, the atmosphere was authentic, the acting was good, and the script was subtle.
In general it felt unlike any Indian movie I've seen.
I was wondering if you can recommend me other good Indian or South East Asian films, that break the over the top Bolywood mold.

Search for "Aamir Khan", it will be easier for you. You can also watch "Gangs of Wasseypur" (only if you have an appetite for action). If you liked Irrfan Khan (Saajan Fernandes), watch "Paan Singh Tomar". Other movie will be suggested by my fellow countrymen.

"Dhobi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries)"
I hope you would like it. :-)

First of all, please do ignore the suggestion above by shishir9211 - Gangs of Wasseypur is not something you will enjoy unless you have a good understanding of India and its ways.

There is an Indian movie called Ship of Theseus. I have not seen it myself but I have heard a lot of good things about it.

Also, may I suggest - not an Indian movie but a French one in case you have not seen it - Monsieur Ibrahim. It is a touching story about how 2 characters meet and how their friendship grows organically.

Odette Toulemonde is a romance between a widow and a writer who's wife cheats on him.
But it is written by a writer and it emphazises a lot about the wildlife in the intellectual jungle. Too much, imho.
Now when luck and romance and letters are on your mind, you might consider giving it a try.

There is a movie called "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer" which I watched several years ago... it was similarly beautiful and subtle.
