compare to The Apostle

The movie "The Apostle" with Robert Duvall from the 1990's, that's my idea of a great movie about religion. It had some real meat to it. I know atheists who even liked it because they respected it as a good film about a man struggling to live by his beliefs. And all that old time spiritual music was not to be beat.

I have not seen "Grace Unplugged" and I may give it a chance, but I have to say I’m a little biased against it. I'm a spiritual person but I'm also pretty aesthetically sensitive when it comes to moviemaking. Excuse my cynicism, but my experience has been that often earnest well-intended movies of this vein are predictable, sugary, not very imaginative. ("Seven Days In Utopia" is an example that springs to mind.) Would Grace Unplugged really stand on its own as a good film if it weren't for people being grateful to it as the rare Christian movie that makes it into theaters?

Anyone who has seen both The Apostle and Grace Unplugged have any thoughts? I’m particularly curious to hear from folks who liked The Apostle.

Probably what also helps make me a little negatively biased is the fact that the main character is really into “praise” worship. I’m a more traditional guy.
