Why is the kid not home?

Was the kid just visiting with his grandmother, or was he staying with his grandmother because of the wife seeing the trespasser?

Also, the wife says something to her mom along the lines of, "I can't be sure of what I saw." I'm not quite sure I understand that, either she saw someone trespassing or she didn't. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it?

Other than that, I thought this movie was refreshingly different in it's approach to home invasion. The look of the film was clean and well done.

Oh, and one other question...

The security guard who comes to check on them says that the silent alarm was triggered.

Who triggered it and how?

I don't know I fell asleep and missed the ending (it was late and I was tired). Debating about watching it again just for a sense of completion.

It was date night and the mother was watching the kid, have you never heard
of this??

when she says she didn't know what she saw she was talking about
the trespasser on her property. basically the guy who is
doing the home invasion was walking around the yard a day or so
before the attack. this is why she calls the police, and she
also told her mother about it. when she is speaking to her
mother, her mother was basically giving her crap about her
husband not being a real man, the mother is a douche bag,
anyway to get her mother to shut up (instead of standing up for her
husband, which all she says is "he is doing the bes the can,
so the daughter is a douche bag also) she tells her mother that she
wasn't sure if she even saw somebody or not, walking around the
yard casing the place

reply

yes, i have heard of date nights.

i just was not clear if that was the reason why the kid was away, or if it was because of the trespasser.

Exactly. Some people need to learn how to listen and pay attention.
