The Frankenporsche

Why? Just, why? Why not just fix/replace the Porsche engine? They could have just improved the car's performance, if that was the problem.

Probably not very interesting from the TV show point of view, but from the business side, probably smarter.

As a Porsche owner, I would never do that to my car. It defeats the purpose of owning one. I can attest to not making sense from a cost stand point. Every owner learns that after 5 years when they need to repair something and there is no longer a warranty. The parts are ridiculously expensive and the labor is crazy from a dealership. One thing that they didn't mention is that a rebuilt motor will be 20-30 grand, while a tranny is 10-15. There are deals from salvages, but Gas Monkeys don't seem the types to be shopping for price, but instead focus on getting it now.

Rule #1 learn how to do you own maintenance and repairs. I was scratching my head through the whole episode and thinking, what is the point? Just another show with Aaron saying lets do this and Richard not even caring why!

Would it have been cheaper/easier to replace/rebuild the Porsche engine? Being that they had the budget of a shop , not of an owner.

They might actually be on to something. Taking European expensive cars and making them more red-neck might actually appeal to southern America. It's kinda like 'shabby chic' but for idiots.

What I want to know is; why can't a "professional" team just build a fender from scratch. Why pay 11000 dollars for a kit? Just make it yourself.
