What is the backstory in why society collapsed

Did the Chinese invade Australia and totally *beep* it up? I get the impression Chinese are everywhere and there is martial law.

Global economy goes into collapse and a realignment of sorts occurs basically East is rich, West is poor as a result China is the economic power in the world so they are heavily invested into Australias natural resources as the country has devolved into a resource rich third world nation (like many African nations) so their branding, goods and the like will be all over the country as they are the ones propping the nation up.

that's a good take on things. However, I kept wondering why the US Dollar is king. Wouldn't it be the Chinese yuan or even more likely, gold & silver.

The backstory is pretty light on in regards to much detail.🐭

Chinese are buying Australia, they have no need to invade it. They have a substantial portfolio or mining and agriculture now.

It's not explained, and it's not necessary to the plot. It doesn't matter why. It just matters that it's collapsed. Knowing might be interesting, but it doesn't really matter to the story at hand.

They don't go into the backstory as they don't think it's important, but if you really want to know what might have been behind it, you might enjoy a look at the official website:

Hit the menu on the top left and you'll see there's an entire section on the "Timeline of the Collapse" and "Remapping the Future". At one point these sections were extremely detailed with "news articles" on various happenings around the world and an imaginary timeline that led to it all collapsing. I think most of that has been removed now (or at least I'm not finding it), but some rudimentary parts of it are still up.
