Mary-Jane Didn't Even Give The White Guy A Chance

I was waiting for the show to do an interracial relationship but I think this was really poorly written over the course of the season.

Not every relationship with men that she meets is meant to be explored in great detail. (see her situation with Cuddy Buddy). She decided she didn't want to date a white man after trying something new and decided to move on with her life. Just because it wasn't explored in depth doesn't mean it was poorly written.

Mary Jane doesn't know what she wants. She thinks she does, but she really doesn't. Mary Jane wants everything (her men/ relationships) on her terms. She thinks her dream man has to come in certain packaging. But I think eventually the character will come to find that she has to just let go and let love happen. Instead of trying to orchestrate it under her own terms.

Exactly.

Bingo!

It was poorly written because seeing that this was an interracial relationship, this could have been explored because he was a different race. Moreover, her choosing to reject this guy because she wanted "black love" showed her discrimination .

Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway. ;P

As she said in tonight's episode, she's looking for a "black unicorn."

She "tried" her white guy but she wasn't interested in pursuing anything more with him. As another poster said, just because it wasn't a deep drawn out plot, doesn't mean it wasn't well written. While I too was disappointed, it was exactly right for the character. Who, on the one hand, is searching for the unattainable. On the other, if she got it, she wouldn't know what to do with it and would screw it up because her issues are within herself. A guy, black or not, cannot "fix" her. She needs to do that for herself.

I don't trust people who don't like pets and I don't trust people who pets don't like.

I thought it was realistic. Not every black woman wants to date interracialy. Many black women have come close and even considered it only to back out, re- confirming that black love is what they truly desire. Almost like ur testing to see how strong your preferences are. I have been there myself, was about to date a white man but couldn't bring myself to do it last minute. Then he turned around and called me a racial slur. So I do get a bullet with that one lol.
