Haven't seen it yet but...

I think I know how it's gonna go... Fortes character sleeps with the wife and things get super complicated... Just like every dramadey nowadays

I agree, AND...it looks boring as hell.

The point of the story: "If only life were that simple..." Lovely film. Enjoyed it very much.

Nope! You're missing out on a really beautiful story! Don't sell it short :)
I just finished it and enjoyed!

That's not even remotely what happens.

That is not what they were aiming for. I too was surprised it did not go there because that seems to be the norm.

SPOILERS...They resisted each other until near the end he could no longer be a good doctor to the husband because he had become to attached to her firstly then there kids in a romantically and fatherly manner and started to use the husbands sickness as a means to get closer to them than what he was supposed to be. He got the husband to ask her can he stay because he knew the husband could not figure out what he was doing and would agree with him. She knew exactly what he was doing and asked him to leave even though she cared for him.

It is kind of rare to see a wife fall for someone but remembers who she really is. She kisses him to thank him for being understanding when she made it clear he has no place in her bed but he will be remembered. They have one more last outing as a family with all included and I feel he came to terms with her choice and knew it was right.

The one thing I saw in the film that seems to be overlooked was the husband was getting better near the end So he did do his job of helping his family as well as himself in his absence.

The film could have went the cliche route with an affair but it was so much better that it did not.

Very well put. While I thought the pileup of dramatic plot developments (including a death and a suicide attempt) toward the end was a bit much -- especially since what came before felt far more naturally developed -- I'm glad the story managed to avoid going the most obvious route.

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WITH A LIST MALE ORIENTED Hollywood leading men. They do not want to upset there male fan base by stealing a good man's wife. Clint Eastwood Russell Crow, Denzel Washington, Tom Cruise or any male star whom has a male oriented star quality. The style is the same for the ending where they leave doing the right thing. It plays well to there base because most men hate cheating wives. Sounds unrealistic but there is lots of truth to it.

No, he doesn't sleep w/the wife. What movie did you watch?
