So you think the crew makes? And how long is a season - a few months? Do they have regular jobs too?

Sorry - I'm a bit late to the game. I watched one or two seasons of this show and just got sucked into watching the season finale a few mins ago.

So the finale listed that each crew member made just over $13k on tips this season.

The rest I can only speculate. I think their salaries vary depending on their rank/stripes and experience. Obviously Capt Lee must have a big salary and he doesn't take tips. Ben said he outranks Kate plus his chef skills probably give him more leverage for salary negotiations, so I guess his salary is next. Then Kate. Then Kelley but quite a bit lower because he is not that experienced. I think the deck crew and stews are last.

Plus what they get from Bravo, whatever that may be. I remember reading somewhere that the RHONYC cast members get $200,000-plus per season but I doubt the Below Deck crew get that.

I'd like to see Kate do the BD Med season.

Are you sure about this? I think I remember him saying in a previous season that they all split the tip evenly, no matter what rank, and the implication was that he was in on tip sharing. I'm not positive, just remembering it that way...

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that Capt Lee does take a share of the tips.

Yes Captain Lee takes a tip, too. That's kind of why the primary gives the envelope to the captain.

Are you sure that's the reason? The Captain and the Primary have a different relationship than the Primary and the rest of the crew. Seems to me handing the envelope to anyone other than the Captain would be a sign of disrespect.

I doubt Ben outranks Kate, even though he may think that in his mind. However, Ben is no one's supervisor, while Kate and Kelley are supervisors. All three report directly to Captain Lee.

I think the chief stewardess, the bosun, and the chef are on an equal level. That's why they have a meeting with the captain before each charter. They each have primary responsibility for one part of the duties on the boat. The only difference is that Ben doesn't have a staff. He handles the meals by himself, plus whatever members of the crew he can get to help him occasionally.

When you think about it, he does have a heavy load -- three a day for the crew plus the extra TLC for the guests.

I agree. I think that's a lot for one person to do. I can't imagine he has a lot of downtown during charters.

Ben is a cook working in the British Virgin Islands on what is for the most part a stationary boat, not a crab fisherman working the rail in Alaska getting hammered by a rogue wave and then has to cook for the crew. And, as mentioned, Ben has help. Just some perspective.

My "perspective" is that it takes a lot of time and effort to cook three gourmet meals a day for the guests, plus three different meals for the crew, plus any extras the guests want at any time of the day and night--all while Kate is constantly bitching at you and refusing to tell you when the guests are going to eat.

Is it the worst job in the world? No, absolutely not--and there are wonderful perqs involved. But just because that is so, that's doesn't minimize the amount of work involved in making all those meals each day for all of those people. It's a lot to do.
