grew on me...

I picked this up in the kids' dvd section of our local library as something we could watch with our kids. I'm a lifelong Oz fan (hence the screen name) so I figured since I'd never heard of this film it must be pretty bad.

I was pleasantly surprised! If you go into it the way you go into Sci-fy movies with their cheesy dialogue and effects it's great fun. The "twist" was also pretty interesting. It was over my 5 year old's head but my 8 year old watched intently and liked it. I think he felt like he was watching a grown up movie, LOL. (It's unrated but if you're picky about this sort of thing as a parent, the word "sexy" is used several times.)

The real badge of honor came when my husband, who I assumed was going through torture watching this film, laughed audibly at Sean Astin's line about the microwave, "We used it to cook burritos." I have a feeling we're going to say that line every time we use the microwave.

Best movie ever? No. But it's fun and good for kids who are too old for little kid stuff but too young for teenage and up stuff. We're through the first half and everyone is curious to see how it ends.
