Why is Gro called Gronnegaard?

Wasn't Gronnegaard the name of Emil and Fredericks father, who was the original owner of the house?

reply

Being a gallerist while harbouring pipe dreams of herself being an acclaimed artiste, Gro identified more with her mor than her musician(?) far and so took her mother's married name?

It's as good a guess as any.

I don't know if I'm mistaken, but I believe Gronnegaard is the name of the house. I believe that the name, Gro is just a short form or nickname for something coincidentally similar but unrelated.

reply

That's true, but I think the OP actually refers to the fact she's "Gro Grønnegaard". Gro seems to be an actual name or nickname probably unrelated to the surname as you say.

reply

Gro is an actual name, yes :)

It was the name of her mother Veronika too. I just assume Veronika changed her name to Grønnegaard when they married and later Gro took Grønnegaard from Veronika instead of Konrad after Thomas.

The Grønnegaard seemed to be some sort nobiliary family (I say that thinking in the big house with terrain, the portraits of Grønnegaard in the house...), probably Veronika was interested in that name to be recognized so she changed her name. The rest just came because of that.
