It's not about jazz at all

This show needed more Jazz in it. But instead they made it a highschool love-triangle borefest. For commercial purposes I presume. Not many people like jazz, even less are jazzheads like me.

I don't know if you watched Nodame Cantabile. That anime was all about classical music. They even played the whole Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2 in one episode and you don't get bored a bit.

I found it pretty insulting to see how they played Moanin' over and over again as if it is the only jazz piece. Yes it is an important piece in Jazz history, that helped hard bop gain popularity. John Coltrane played My favorite things like no one has ever tried before. These are all important events in the history of jazz.

But jazz as a whole genre, could have gotten much more exposure in this series. Instead of pursuing pointless love-triangle relationships.

I recommend 'Round Midnight for those who wants to see a movie that actually paid homage to jazz. ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090557/?ref_=nv_sr_1 )

Here is a scene from the movie:

Not that I am saying I did not like this series. I actually really liked it to the point of rating it 8 over 10. It is just that I had higher expectations.

Hey, Soldier. Do you know who's in command here?

Kids on the Slope would definitely disappoint jazz aficionados if that's predominantly what they were looking for. However, jazz plays a centrifugal role in the show and the story would not have progressed at several intervals if it weren't for the characters's shared love for jazz. With that in mind, your thread title is equally as hyperbolic as saying that Kids on the Slope is all about jazz. Thank you for the links.
