London Film Festival - 2013

As someone who's been blown away by Claude Lanzmann's seminal documentary Shoah, I had to see this. His style of interviewing is so unobtrusive that it seems like he has the ability to tap into the other person's subconscious and by doing so allow us in.

Mermelstein's ability to survive when others like him have not is a paradox. I was constantly asking myself was this man godly or devilish enough to beat the Nazi's at their own evil game. That is the beauty of this documentary.

As with Shoah viewing requires dedication as this film is over 3 hours long but I found myself utterly riveted.
