Murmelstein's Reputation

It is surprising to me that there were apparently so few defenders of the man who was instrumental in emigrating scores of thousands.

Also, a more nuanced appreciation might have been hoped for in an assessment of what must have been maddeningly difficult role of administering to a beleaguered people, under the rule of the mad, hateful and ravenously corrupt. A less able or driven or organized man would presumably have gotten fewer out. The people that condemn his 'ruthless' efficiency, were they in his office waiting for an exit visa, might have seen such a character differently.

If anyone with advanced knowledge ever wants to weigh in on this man's reputation & legacy, that would be welcome. My comments are almost certainly naive, and certainly, aside from Murmelstein's commentary, uninformed.

Personally, I found him to be impressive, insightful & persuasive, while acknowledging that brilliant people can make themselves appear somewhat as they would prefer to be viewed, given such a platform, with years to prepare.

All that said, it seems to me that he got the shaft from his own, & without a trial or the chance to confront his accusers.

Can you imagine the testimony he could have given in the Eichmann trial?
