Couldn't they find any Swedish actresses...

to play the young SWEDISH woman he left Gemma for? Or have the producers never been to Sweden (a Scandanavian country full of pale blonds)? As far as appearance goes Scandanavian & Ukrainian is pretty much as far apart as you can get with ethnic Europeans. Couldn't they have at least bleached her hair to get the blonde part? Nothing against the actress who plays Inka; I am part Ukrainian myself but even with a lot of German & a bit of French and Irish mixed in I couldn't pass for Swedish either (& I'm a natural blonde).

My thoughts exactly, she didn't look remotely Scandinavian ..... if they particularly wanted that actress why not let the character be Ukrainian?

are there only blondes in Sweden or have i missed something?

reply

Yes. What about the dark haired [blonde] from ABBA?

reply

Yes there's a "blonde Scandinavian" stereotype but of COURSE all Swedes aren't blonde...the majority have brown hair.

ikr, have they even been to Sweden?

About Inca's looks, I dont know. I mean, she does not have a "typical" swedish appearance, but a lot of us don't. (I'm swedish).

Yes, we have a lot of blondes here. A whole lot.
But many of us are also dark haired. Even black haired.
And now that I think about it, we even have quite a few people of African or South American descent. And Asian, and every other part of the world that you can think of.

And I love that, I think it makes Sweden a lot cooler.

But, to get back to the issue: About Inca:

Her "swedish" accent is abhorrible. Not one part of it is right. I'm sure that most of you have at some point heard a Swede speak english. Did it sound anything like Inca's accent?

I bet it didn't!

And in the episode (I can't remember which one), when Inca and Tom spoke "swedish" to each other.
I couldn't understand a word! It was just "mumbo jumbo" to me.

Other than that, I LOVE this show. Sarah Alexander is so freaking gorgeous! And funny.

My hunch on the Inca/Inga character is that she was intended as some other nationality then was re-written to being Swedish at the last minute due to some alleged sensitivity by the powers that be. They may have picked Swedish for being less likely to stir any controversy and ended up causing this very set of remarks instead.

Not being an expert, I couldn't place her accent but did also think it did not seem very much like any Swede I'd heard. Just a case of executive meddling gone wrong I'd say!

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.
