"Dare yorimo aishi~teru."

=> "I love you more than anyone."

That's what I heard Aki say after Juana thanked him for the sushi knife.
She gave him a quizzical look in response, but the subtitles just translated his line as "you're welcome".

Did anyone else hear something different than I did?

I was waiting to see if they would call back to it later in the movie, but no...
I guess they just left it in there as a kind of Easter Egg that most of the audience wouldn't have access to? Curious.

(Edit: I had to alter the spelling of the japanese quote slightly, because imdb was treating it as an english swear word. Silly...)

Yeah, he did say that.

The subtitles we had didn't translate it or offer an alternative response like your "you're welcome". It was left blank, which left my friends puzzled like Juana. I told them what he said and they were like "Oh... What, she doesn't know what he just said? Why couldn't he just tell her?"

I think the filmmaker chose to make it one of many subtle clues that he likes her that much. Like his reaction to her absence, her phone call to the kitchen and so on.
