why OH WHY was it so dark?!

Seriously, what the hell? More than half the movie was pretty much pitch black. Anyone know if that was intentional? Overall this was a very bad movie. Didn't care for the characters and nothing scary (from the little I could see) really happened. Thought it would be a lot better since the first one is quite scary at times.

What did you think of the darkness and this movie in general?

reply

I had no problem with the lighting, I'm not even sure what you mean to be honest. And the movie was alright. I probably wouldn't rematch it, but it wasn't a waste of time either.

reply

Well dont know where I was unclear, but, I meant the movie was pretty much black throughout, we could barely see what was going on.

reply

Gotcha. I didn't have any issue with it myself, I guess that's why I didn't know what you meant.

reply

I don't know how anyone could not have an issue with it. I'm watching this on netflix right now and much of the movie is lit so dark as to barely be more than a blank screen.

Even if this movie had been great (which from what I can tell, it's definitely not) and I wouldn't have known it, since I can barely see anything throughout a good chunk of the movie.

Exactly ! Worst filming of a movie I've ever seen in my life. I've been on a few movie sets before and this is really, incredibly badly shot with poor lighting.

reply

I'm watching on Netflix right now and I can't see a thing that's going on. Its not scary when you can't see the things that pop out at you.

reply

Agreed. I came on here for the sole purpose of seeing if others had this problem or if it was my television. I tried adjusting the picture but nothing helped. I'm watching it on Netflix, also. The daylight scenes are fine, but all the scary stuff is so dark I can't tell what's going on.

reply

Also tried watching it on Netflix. It was entirely too dark (as in, I couldn't see anything) and frustrating to watch.. I gave up after 20 minutes.

reply

Don't worry about not being able to see anything. There's nothing worth seeing. This is just a cheap cash in on the success of the original Woman in Black. Just another bunch of vulnerable kids in Eel Marsh House. I sincerely hope the makers don't think they can squeeze a franchise out of this and just keep making films about different groups of kids at different times in contrived situations that mean they have to stay at the house.

reply

man, I came here to see if anybody else had the same complaints. Unbelievable. Filming your "scary" scenes in 90% pitch dark isn't scary. It's frustrating and stupid beyond belief.

I spent most of the movie squinting and trying to make out what was supposed to be scaring me. instead of feeling anything. Never been so disconnected from a "horror" film in my entire life.

Absolutely dreadful design choice.

reply

What the h* is right. The lighting choices really distracted from being able to understand what was going on. I knocked a full 2 points off for this.

reply

I thought I had too much glare in the room, couldnt see a thing

Watched it last night and had to brighten up that tv screen early on, turn down the volume because on the explosive sound whenever the director wanted a fright, and turn on the subtitles. It really wasn't worth the effort. ( Why was the fake airport haunted?)

reply

C'mon people - what are watching this on, a matchbox? On a Full HD TV in a dark room everything is visible to a great detail.

reply

You need to go to specsavers, or are you trolling? I have a top TV and i could hardly see a damn thing...

reply

I agree. the movie lighting was too dark! Hard to watch.

reply

Did you see it at a theatre? I used a DVD and it was never a problem to figure out what was going on. It's way better than Alien Vs. Predator 2: Requiem, which has godawful lightning.
