For those Who think PK is similar to OMG

I think you have a "WRONG NUMBER"

1) PK was in preproduction before Oh My God was released. There were news at that time that Raju Hirani and Abhijat Joshi had to rewrite some of the story points. So if anyone think that PK was copied or inspired by OMG, they get their answer.

2) And what is wrong with doing another film on such an important topic. Do you watch Salman Khan movies? It is the same story over and over. All so called Masala movies. Even the actress (Sonakshi) and villains same for some cases. SRK do same act over and over. There are lot of Bollywood movies in the same formula and people go and watch them. Suddenly PK is attacked for the similarity of subject with OMG.

Actually PK is in a different level and the humour attached to the movie is mind blowing. Director and Writer Raju Hirani has been successful in conveying such a powerful and somewhat controversial topic in a light way, that people not only enjoy the movie but would take home a good message.

Well said buddy.
I have also been saying the same thing again n again on this message board!
Check my topic which is below yours with the subject line 'Open it. Important!'
It surprises me that the Internet is full of idiots.

reply

The sad thing is that is full of idiots who haven't seen 3 Idiots hehehe

I haven't seen yet PK but I'm sure I will enjoy it.

Greetings from Romania

reply

With the collections the movie made there is a chance that most people have seen the movie.

reply

totally agreed with you, mind is blown watching this film...

maybe they got the idea from somewhere, not OMG which is ALSO copied from the man who sued god... so its not like OMG is original

but what a great and funny film !

That's a FAKE Laugh....

reply

OMG may not be original, but its anyday a better satire on fake godmen than PK. Most of the screentime is wasted on foolish scenes which do nothing for the story. Many people are praising it just because Aamir n Hirani's names are attached to it.
OMG was funnier than PK.

reply

I think the comment that you made right here is funnier than any movie I've ever seen.
OMG funnier than PK? Hahahaahahaha
LMAO
People praising PK bcoz of Raju and Aamir?
Wow man, I just salute your thinking.
Internet is full of idiots, HENCE PROVED.

reply

Ishan OMG got national award and many foreign critics also hailed the film as a very good satire. OMG was not slapstick comedy, it was a satire on religion and is done in a more believable way.

PK trumps OMG only in Production level..Everything else OMG is just too good even to be compared to PK.......Because of the 2nd half let down PK seemed half baked..A better ending and tighter script would have made PK one of the all time best...Still good enough to have entertainment and message combined

reply

Go to rotten tomatoe and check the review by the guy and see what he says about omg

More believable?
really?
So it means that, a God appearing on earth in human form is more believable than an alien coming down to earth on a spaceship?
You cannot be serious.

reply

OMG did not copy man who sued god, it was adapted from man who sued god and even gave credits of its inspiration to it. OMG goes more deeper than man who sued god.

reply

OMG was an unexpectedly good film which was a surprise superhit film of the year 2012. I remember the film wasn't reviewed by most of the critics and was given a step motherly treatment n still went on to succeed on word of mouth.

There's hardly any snobbery attached to Aamir Khan's cinema. His films (barring Lagaan) are considered 'lowbrow', 'only for common, bollywood-watching public' etc. Even Hirani is not viewed in the league of highbrow directors like Anurag Kashyap or Hansal Mehta.

Of course, as far as which film is better is a matter of opinion. I liked both films. OMG had a more in-depth discussion about the subject but I found PK funnier.

reply

Absolutely right :D People will watch the similar trash of Salman khan but if one more movie brings up the same issue they go nuts.

Also I feel that this movie had a whole new flavor to it and with the added romance, it was even more different

Why do we fall?

reply

1)OMG is a Gujarati play so before even you director thought about PK .. the play existed ... and OMG was better in terms of sending message about ppl having blind faith in God ...

2)there is nothing wrong in doing such film but i didn't leave the impact tht OMG did ...

reply

Well said and totally agree with you.

BTW, that Gujarati play was called Kanji viruddh Kanji.

uh, what do I know ?!?

reply

I agree with you.....I am not that person who makes such comments that PK is inspired by OMG. Actually they both are based on similar lines. But given a choice that which movie conveys the message more effectively I would say its OMG, not that PK is bad...but it falls short of my expectation from Hirani(Seeing his previous track records...the best example 3 idiots, I was not expecting another 3 idiots but was expecting THAT level of film making which I felt it was bit low )
There where scenes, where I couldn't help but relate it to OMG!!(Only "Wrong number" and that "Thupa"(stamp) I felt was different) .But I won't call it as inspired or copied, I would rather say that it is a pure coincidence...
Conclusion: PK good movie...but OMG...It opened my eyes and changed my perspective.

reply

That just shows big budget movie is widely reachable. OMG will always be a better satire because its a 100% religious satire and not a mish mash of several things.

Movies having same/similar social messages does not mean they are copied.

A big difference that I see between two movies is:

OMG focused much more to self-realization by ordinary people like us. That is why Paresh Rawal was casted as Kanji Rao and not any of the bollywood superstars. In that movie, God, although played by one of the bollywood big names, had secondary role. Akshay Kumar was a "side-hero". His first scene in the movie came at around interval time.

PK focused more to giving more screen time to its big-money cast Aamir Khan rather than focusing more on the social message. In other words, PK focused more in being big in BO. In my opinion, they should have shown more of Sushant-Anushka and their families giving up superstitions and realizing caste-religion-country-etc are not important for a love story. Instead, they unnecessarily have Aamir falling in love with Anushka.

reply

AGREE but akshay was brave, don't forget he was the producer of OMG and it was he hired paresh to play the lead role, imo paresh Bhai should thank akki for casting him in the lead in his production.
