7/10. Here's why / Esta es la razón:
Bollywood isn't just an industry; it's practically a sub-genre. When they announced that a movie from there would be released in Chile (when I was still living there) for the 1st time, I got nervous. I mean, genres develop in time, so us film buffs feel like we can't just start with a genre by watching a modern movie. I wondered if I had to look for older Bollywood movies to watch first... but which ones? And how many? I was about to pull out my hair but, eventually, I decided to just take the risk. It turns out that P.K. is a good movie to start with. It's about an alien who learns about India's different costums. We foreign viewers can learn with him. Many parodies have shown how silly these productions can be. Luckily, this is a tongue-in-cheek comedy. Everything ridiculous is on purpose. It's also a clever satire on religion with some sweet moments. In musicals, the songs are always more memorable than the score since they're more highlighted (the former are played on screen while the latter is played in the background). This time, it's the other way around. Unfortunately, Aamir Khan is too over-the-top and there's a problem with the plot structure: The title character arrives on Earth; JAGGU (his friend) is introduced for several, several minutes; they meet; he tells her what has he been doing since he arrived (over-long flashbacks in the middle are always a bad idea); the plot continues in the present until the end. Did it have to be 2 1/2 hours long?

Bollywood no es solo una industria; es prácticamente un sub-género. Cuando anunciaron que una película de ahí se estrenaría en Chile (cuando todavía estaba viviendo ahí) por 1ra vez, me puse nervioso. O sea, los géneros se desarrollan con el tiempo, por lo que nosotros los cinéfilos sentimos que no podemos simplemente empezar con un género viendo una película moderna. Me pregunté si tenía que buscar películas de Bollywood más viejas para ver primero... ¿pero cuáles? ¿Y cuántas? Estaba a punto de arrancarme el pelo pero, al final, decidí aceptar el riesgo y ya. Resulta que P.K. es una buena película para empezar. Se trata de un alien que aprende sobre las distintas costumbres de la India. Nosotros los espectadores extranjeros podemos aprender con él. Muchas parodias han mostrado lo bobas que pueden ser estas producciones. Por suerte, esta es una semi-parodia. Todo es ridículo a propósito. También es una sátira inteligente de la religión con algunos momentos dulces. En los musicales, las canciones siempre son más memorables que la música incidental ya que se destacan más (las primeras se tocan en pantalla mientras que la segunda se toca en el fondo). Esta vez, es al revés. Desafortunadamente, Aamir Khan sobre-actúa demasiado y hay un problema con la estructura de la trama: El personaje titular llega a la Tierra; se presenta a JAGGU (su amiga) durante varios minutos; ellos se conocen; él le dice a ella lo que ha estado haciendo desde que llegó (los flashbacks demasiado largos en la mitad siempre son mala idea); la trama continúa en el presente hasta el final. ¿Tenía que durar 2 horas y media?
