There are no yard dance parties.
It is a pain in the arse to get access to the library/visitors (at least until you've been in the system for a while).
You are not going to meet a fellow inmate and four seconds later have them visiting you and bringing you things (and just FYI, if you're on parole or probation, you are not eligible to make visits).
There may be some rudimentary make-up available, but there is not a full palette of colors available like Jenna Tatum wears. No blow-dryers either.
It is not a boarding school where you're allowed to hang out and wander around at your leisure. Most of your day is in a cell.
There is not metal cutlery! Sorry, that really irked me.
No, I haven't been to prison. I learned this by watching Lock-Up and other prison documentaries. Just once, I'd like to see a movie where the women don't look freshly bathed and made-up like, well, actresses. And where they have to walk on the line, keeping their hands on their sides, and get strip searched, and lose all autonomy, just like in real life.
