philisophical question that this movie bugged me regarding

Would the media really be dumb enough to release the name of a hostage who took footage, especially a young child, like they did in the movie? At first I thought it was unrealistic, but then again, our media can be that daft.

reply

Well, the media didn't know that the terrorists were watching the TV, first of all. Second, the media isn't exactly smart, okay?

You're so much politer than I am. He sounds like a cúnt.

Thanks. I try to be polite, however......

In this case her name was attached to the blog so it would have been publicly known.

I think the more ridiculous thing is that the terrorists didn't have anyone sitting at home watching the news for developments or even just have a TV on somewhere for most of the time.

It's not a blog, it's a YouTube channel!

Ironically,on this date 6 years back, terrorists holed up inside the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai were getting live feed of commandos preparing to launch operation and were ambushed and some killed. And yes, name and room number of at least 1 guests who had called up was released leading to her death. So real time coverage has its perils since it's only later that we get to now how grim the situation is.

Well in France the media showed the location of children hidding when terrorists hit the supermarket. It is all about the rating

The media filmed the live positioning of German police during the 1972 hostage taking in Münich. They had to call that off.

The media doesn't care about anything except ratings. Or they're really stupid and don't realize how much damage they do.

Real life ain't as dope as the movies.

reply

You have to assume the terrorists are watching tv, so putting her name and also announcing that special forces helicopters were on the way were irresponsible, but I think the media would do it. I think the movie with all its die hard references tried to be like the reporter in die hard who did the same thing to a hostage.
