similarity to a car named desire

did anyone else notice how similar this film is to a car named desire from 1951?

reply

It reminded me of "A Woman Under the Influence" personally

"Darth Vader is scary and I The Godfather"

reply

Yes, there are many similarities.

1. Jasmine's mental instability like Blanche's.

2. Both Jasmine and Blanche romance a man, lie to him, and then lose him when the truth comes out.

3. The younger sister is attracted to violent/animalistic men and the older sister despises that personality.

4. The older sister has an elitist attitude against her sister about her lifestyle.

5. Both Blanche and Jasmine come to live with their lower class sisters.

6. Scene with the men watching the basketball game is a take off from the scene with the bowling alley from SND.

7. Both Blanche and Jasmine end up insane in the end of both movies.

There are probably many more, these are just the ones that come to mind.

I love that play. On a Hot Tin Roof and The Ass Menagerie are also great.

All kidding aside, I sincerely hope that someone, somewhere has made a porn parody of Tennessee Williams's plays and called it The Ass Menagerie. I'm not going to google it to see, but I just hope it's somewhere out there.

I've seen A Street Whore Named Desireé. Well, not seen it, but came across it when I was in a porn shop once.

I'm hoping to find Orifice Descending out there.

I found Orifice Descending at an adult video store in lower Manhattan. It was next to Scat on a Hot Tin Roof which I liked though the wife thought it stunk.

I think it's extremely similar and has to be a homage to some degree. The main difference here is that Blue Jasmine focuses much less on the relationship between the main character and her sister's husband, while that dynamic is central to Streetcar. But other than that they're extremely similar.
