Sally Hawkins was 'incandescent' and Cate's brilliant and central performance would have been unfocused without her. In reviews etc. she seems seldom mentioned. Didn't anyone else find her brilliant in this as the sister?

Maybe not cheated but it would not have been amiss to give her the Oscar. She does a great American accent for an English gal.

Lupita was great, but Jennifer Lawrence absolutely demolished it in American Hustle. Keep in mind, I haven't seen Blue Jasmine yet and I do really want to soon.

shareI agree that despite the nominations, Sally Hawkins was really underrated in this role. It was a very difficult role because in the beginning of the movie we sympathize with her but by the end we realize Ginger is just as vapid as Jasmine, but even more so she's a fake because at least Jasmine doesn't pretend to be something she's not. Sally Hawkins was perfect as Ginger.
