Why Danny ?

Why Danny didn't want to see and talk to her ever again ?

reply

Maybe he blamed her for his dad's fate.

But since Danny was so enraged at his father, why be so mad at Jasmine--why NOT make the call to put him in jail? After all, that's where he belonged. Danny sure as hell acted like he thought his father deserved jail.

maybe, but the flashbacks show an apparently good relationship between Jasmine and Danny. And Augie said Danny knew the whole story--which must've included his father cheating on Jasmine with many women. To me, this 'transference' by Danny didn't make sense and was the only weak part in an otherwise great movie.

Well, yes--that's what I was referring to when they accidently bumped into Augie (a convenient plot device)and he let Jasmine know that Danny now knows the whole story--and I assumed Augie told Danny the reason why Jasmine 'made that call'--rage over discovering her husband (and Danny's father) had habitually cheated on Jasmine for years. IMO, that would be another reason why Danny would hate his father rather than Jasmine.

It does seem odd that Augie would know Jasmine made the call to the feds. Doesn't seem like Jasmine would have told Ginger to begin with!

reply

How should augie have know she made the call?

reply

I assumed Jasmine told her sister, who then told Augie.

I felt that Danny was angry with Jasmine because the call to the Feds proved that Jasmine had full knowledge of her husband's illegal dealings. But she had no problem with it while she was enjoying the benefits. But as soon as Hal said that he was leaving her, she reported him. Jasmine's hypocrisy cost Half his life. And yes, Danny transferred all his anger to Jasmine.

Danny said he couldnt show his face in public again, that everyone knew at college. He was so upset he quit school and left.

reply

Danny found out that his mother knew all of the illegal things his father did. She was not as ignorant as she pretended and she was equally to blame as the father for embezzling so many people.

reply

She was not to blame, it was not her who did all those bad things. Who wouldn't look the other way for their husband.

reply

I'm not saying turn him to the cops but she literally looked the other way, and by doing so she IS equally to blame and is no different from him. Someone with some principle and moral standing would've talked to him at least about it when she first suspects these things, not involve her sister and husbands hard earned money and lottery into it, and eventually have left him if she had a conscience. But she took all his money and knew all his bad dealings and merely turned him in out of spite. They were equally mortally inept people who were selfish and didn't have qualms embezzling people.
