Shazia??
Why did they recast, its pretty stupid after 3 seasons
sharedon't know, but the new shazia (Krupa Pattani) doesn't suit playing Amjad's wife or the elder sister of Alia, Her acting/jokes looks very forced compared to Maya Sondhi and she doesn't look that good with the rest of the cast.
shareWhile watching the show, I kept wondering if they had recast the character (and if the same is going to happen with Mrs. Khan - she is listed as being on this episode when she wasn't). I guess Maya Sondhi was otherwise engaged or negotiations failed to bring her back. We'll have to give Krupa Pattani a chance (albeit, with the short UK seasons, it'll be hard to get to know her).
In this episode, her character was pretty much the only adult in the room, so it had little room to maneuver so it couldn't be very funny (Shazia is usually a voice of reason, but normally there are also other characters to share in the load, so serious characters have some leeway to also be funny, but not on this episode - she pretty much performed the roles of both Shazia and Mrs. Khan).
It's like she doesn't know it's supposed to be a comedy. They should have explained that to her instead of ignoring it.
