Mel saved this film

Gibson seemed like the only one who really knew and had fun with what he was doing. Well, Kelsey Grammer and maybe Banderas too.

With ALL the Expendables films, it has always felt like the main cast are really tense and under pressure, like "we have this huge cast of action stars, we have to make a great action flick" and then the result is that everybody just seems really on edge, the jokes and banter feels forced and the action scenes are underwhelming. I feel like the cast is a puzzle with the pieces misaligned. I hope the fourth film will finally get it right.

Agree, but my only gripe about Gibson was he seemed to just copy Heath Ledgers Joker performance in Dark Knight (the video scene was somewhat uncomfortably similar).

Seemed like the old guard phoned their performance in (even Snipes just felt like he was only in this for a pay day) while mixing with the younger generation "stars" who could not act their way out of a paper bag (only one I would hive pass marks to is Glen Powell.... while Lutz, Rousey and Oritz performance was cringe worthy at times.... when Thorn was trying to block the radio signal for the bombs, it was horrible watching Rousey and Lutz going "come on Thorn!" over and over again).

Grammer and (especially) Banderas where the MVP's in this movie.

Gibson is one of the only actors that can turn weak scripts into tremendous performances. He has an unparralled talent at doing so. He definitely saves Expendables III. Can you imagine if he accepted the role of director as well??! That would've probably made those film 100 times better!!

Yeah
The casting director failed miserably with snipes and rousy. Yet hit a home run with Mel

reply

True but there wasn't near enough of him anymore

He was by far the best thing in the movie, but only ONE good thing isn't enough to save a movie for me.

100% agreed with the OP! IMO The best scene in the whole film is the dialogue between Mel and Sly in the back of the truck...
