Disappointed by the ending (spoilers)

I imagine this had to have been based on a book which contained more information, since the ending of this movie left too much unanswered.

*Spoilers*

One major point that the film fails to describe is the nature of the conflict between Mr. Crampton and Grace. It seems like this really should have been discussed in the story since it's a key element in the plot.

Another major point that is inexplicably left unmentioned was the fact that Rose was actually Grace's daughter, and thereby Mr. Crampton's granddaughter! This was hinted at in the film (e.g. the photograph) and the ending credits even mention the actress who played Grace as playing "Grace/Rose's mother"(!!). Now, why in the world was this clearly relevant fact brought up in the film itself? I was fully expecting Grace to make an appearance at the end of the film to be reunited with her father and her daughter, but this never came to fruition.

The film itself seems like one that children can appreciate, but it could have been enhanced by changing some things.

~After enjoying that movie, I figured I would drop by IMDB to read about its problems.
