Why are people saying this os horror/scary???

HERE BE SPOILERS*****************

This movie is not vague. From about 5-10 minutes
into the film, we see the pill bottle and the phone off
the hook. I instantly first thought that this whole
movie was going to be that the son had died, and the
mom was going to try to communicate with him, while
he thinks it's the other was around. so right away
I thought this movie was cliché, and I was going to
be doing some fast forwarding, didn't want to waste
time on him simply being dead, cause if he was, than
there INSTANTLY is NO OTHER REASON to watch a movie
that is a dream right? something that never happens
is a total cop-out and done to death plot. So I go a
bit further in the movie. then I see the really cheesy
black cat thing, and I'm like, this is a joke, right??
so now I skip ahead, watch a couple of minutes, then skip 20,
but on Netflix, you can preview the movie, see all of it
real fast, so if something catches my eye, ill stop it
there. well nothing did. so I go to the last 5 minutes or
so, and wait for the big "twist".

And I was right, but it was the moms dream, about he son, lol.
so a GHOSTS dream LMAO.

so Casper has a dream, and all of you think its "SO DEEP", lol.

so don't tell me about anything that happened in the movie,
and oh, because I didn't watch it all, or didn't get it,
cause that is crap. it's perfectly simple, a dream about
a movie, the WHOLE movie that NEVER happens, you can not
be terrified psychologically, if it doesn't happen, than it
can't be filmed.

This is why I hate movies these days. Everyone needs jump scares every 5 minutes and everyone is looking for a twist immediately.. so much so in fact, that it's almost a twist when things are exactly as they are. This movie is creepy from its atmosphere, the creature was kind of unnecessary but at least the screen time was short for it. You need to be able to immerse yourself in a movie like this.. not sitting there predicting the next jump scare, trying to guess a plot twist, or fast forwarding through parts like some kind of ADHD ridden monkey.

I agree with you that jump scares are overplayed, and I prefer atmospheric horror over cheap thrills... But nothing happened in this movie. There just wasn't much to see. It was all atmosphere and no substance.

You hit the nail on the head King_Krestel. I have to say, on pure atmosphere alone (the house, the statues, the color scheme, the creepy sound FX as well as score) the movie is a 10/10. Where it falls flat is the story and what actually "happens"...seems like NOTHING was going on most of the time...I'd compare it to Ti West's House of the Devil...feels like mostly filler.

I can see this director really coming around and making a kick a$$ horror movie in the future! He's got the skills to make an even better film, this time with a better story/pacing.
