Pauly's charity work

You have to respect what he did on the show, visiting the kid with cancer, and visiting all the other kids. But what I really find disturbing is how this guy is considered a role model for kids. What parent would want their kid looking up to or emulating Pauly D?

reply

Why not? If you can actually look over all the bravado and showmanship which is just acting for the MTV viewers. Pauly D is actually quite intelligent and down to earth guy that just tries to achieve his dreams.

reply

Why not? He's totally shallow, superficial, immature, degrading towards women. Shall I go on? I don't see how anybody could think that this guy should be any kind of role model whatsoever to any kid. Ofcourse he's not a stupid man and I like watching the guy or I wouldn't be a fan of the show. But when I see all these small boys and girls idolizing him and swarming the guy, I can't help but shake my head in disgust and wonder how this could've happened and what their parents must think about their kids looking up to a guy like this. It's even worse when I see it happen with Snooki when little kids are all looking up to somebody like that. Don't get me wrong, The guy is great tv and fun to watch and I don't think he's a bad person at all.

I was thinking the same thing Jay. How is he a role model when he degrades people, sleeps around etc. I mean yeah it was pretty awesome of him to visit the kid but as a parent knowing my kid looks up to him as a role model is pretty weird. Its not like he had a music career to go look up to or went to the clubs to listen to his DJing at 15.

His treatment of women is his one defining weakness. However as the Pauly D project has shown and his school teacher's assement of his behaviour, work ethic and kind manners during his time in school in episode 12, you can clearly see he has a lot of redeeming features. He is proof you can make it from nothing, all you need is passion for what you do and to be kind to other people. I'm sure with time, the womanising will stop as he matures even more.

reply

His treatment of women is not only his defining weakness, but it's one of the main reasons for his major popularity. It wasn't his drive and his passion that got him where he is today. I'm not saying he doesnb't have that. but It was his popularity from Jersey shore where he was able to get a different girl in his bed every night. That and ofcourse he has a likable personality. Do you really think he would've been giving all these DJ oppurtunities if it wasn't for his popularity on Jersey shore? You talk about "as he matures even more"? The guy is gonna be 33 years old. I can just picture 12 year old kids asking girls in class if they're DTF and them wanting to drink alcohol because Pauly D does it and it's cool. This is the guy they all look up to. Ofcourse the guy was never meant to be a role model, but I'm pointing out that it's disturbing that he is one. If there's one thing and one thing only kids should strive for in regards to him, is to be able to make a success and be independently wealthy. But the rest of the world has to do it without the benefit of becoming famous from getting different girls every night on a reality tv show.

reply

make it from nothing? the only reason he "made it" was because of how he acted and being on Jeresy shore. It wasn't like he created an album and became famous. How owuld the kid know about his work ethic?

reply

This is what I'm talking about and why I'm so puzzled by the comments about his being able to make it through hard work and dedication. It is not hard work and dedication that gets people on reality tv shows. They hired him for the show because they knew he'd get tons of girls and he was a funny guy. Plain and simple. He had major popularity through the tv show and used it as a vehicle for DJ'ing and other things. ANd people say "if you overlook his treatment of women, he's a great guy, etc..." How can you overlook it when that is what made the guy famous? This is what people see when they watch the show and this is the guy kids are watching and they idolize him.

jayhn1111, I appreciate what your saying and agree with some of your points but he's also famous for his sense of humour with catchphrases like 'Yeah Buddy' and 'Best Day of My Life'. The womanising is just one facet to his persona which is exagerated on Jersey Shore to bring in the ratings. The real Pauly D was shown on the Pauly D project.

Regardless of being on tv, he still works hard, yes his job is easier than most other peoples but it still takes dedication and effort to be the person he is. There are plenty of moments where he could of ruined his fame by using drugs or becoming a bad person. He hasn't done that, so give him some props please.

Like I said in my last post, the womanising will stop when he matures, which will probaly when he finds mrs right. Different people mature faster in different areas of life than others, yes for a 33 year old he's behind but thats probaly down to the fact that he was shy as a kid and when he got famous wanted to make up for lost time. Would relationships been a better route to take of course and thats where I agree with you.

reply

You're right, he's famous for his catchphrases which caught on like wildfire, but without the picking up different girls every night, there'd be no Pauly D on the jersey shore. That's a major part of the show and why they wanted him on the show. A huge portion of the show revolved around them bringing in girls and treating them like trash.

I never said the guy doesn't have dedication or good work ethic. My point was, that getting on a reality tv show has nothing to do with work ethic or dedication. He didn't just all of a sudden get major dj'ing gigs. Without jersey shore, there'd be no huge gigs in Vegas. So to me, the making it from nothing through sheer ethic and determination just does not fly. He auditioned for the Jersey shore, they knew the guy would =ratings, so he got on the show. Through that is where he was able to get the big jobs in Vegas.
This is not about me judging the guy for how he lives his life. The more power to him for getting the girls that he does. My point was, him hooking up with the girls and degrading them is what people see on tv and all everybody has to go by in regards to him, and the kids are looking up to him for that and I find that disturbing.

You have to also remember it takes two to tango. Alot of these girls want to be taken advantage of and they use Pauly to have sex and get on camera, so the degradation and exploitation works both ways. Do I agree with what Pauly does? No and if you actually look at his persona season 1 he was very different and very quiet, he barely spoke and kept out of all the dramas. Like you said, I'm sure he was cast for his looks but DTF did not exist back then, it was introduced in Season 2 by Mike. He is much to blame than anybody.

Maybe kids do look up to him for his womanising but not ALL kids, some look up to him for his his success, his fame, money and some his DJ skills. Also this is more of a society issue than a Pauly D issue and yes it can be disturbing, especially when it's young kids. MTV don't seem to mind, as it's a cash cow, regardless of the notoriety. I do agree with you on most of your points, I just think there are a few discrepancies here and there
