Couple of odd questions, really nothing to do with story

Early in the movie when showing the outside of the second family's shop there is a man splashing water on the road in front. The amount of water really wouldn't have washed anything away, is this something done in Japan as a ritual or such? Also toward there end of the movie the first father is standing next to a mantel or shelf on which there is a framed photo of a lady's head sideways who looked to be in terror, anyone know what that was about?

Splashing water like this is a common way in Asia of limiting the amount of dust blowing around. As for the photo on the desk, I think it’s probably a picture of Ryusei lying down and laughing, given to them by the Saikis (although the resolution on my tv isn’t good enough for me to be sure).
