Really

I hope either this gets better or the cancel it soon. It would've been nice to laugh at some time. With the cast they have this should be better.

I wish that they gave John Witherspoon and Jackee (two of the greatest comedic talents and scene-stealers) more to do than using generic-ass "your old" and "your ugly" jokes. It looks like something that would have been made in the 90s with the cinematography and all of the prominent black sitcom veterans around, not that that's a bad thing, but the execution of the one-liners fall flat and the scenarios are very bland, plus those canned "studio audience" laughs don't help either. The same goes for that new Bill Bellamy show that's produced by the same team.

I posted a response on the "Mr. Box Office" board, but yeah, I don't see this one making any waves. To me, it has a lot of the same average writing and overacting that's already in the other current black sitcoms (Tyler Perry's stuff, "Love That Girl", etc.).

Byron Allen produces some pretty cheesy, low-budget stuff. I was hoping this one wouldn't fall into that same cookie-cutter category. The laugh track sounds like the one used on "Comics Unleashed" (another Byron show).

It's not horrible, it's just not that good either. It's..........mediocre. Kinda sad given the cast. Oh well, at least it's not Flavor Flav's sitcom from a few years ago.

how was Marla?

She was her same great self. crackin' off the insults with rifle precision and timing. And for 81 years old, she looks great.

the writing is terrible. all that talent being wasted. the direction is mediocre also. well at least the cast is getting some paychecks before it gets canceled

reply

Here's the thing...they produced close to 100 episodes in a really short amount of time (i.e. less than a year), so it's going to be around for awhile.

Tyler Perry did the same thing with his sitcoms, and I hate it. You sacrifice quality for quantity, just to get something on the air. It's almost like the writers/producers don't give a damn about whether or not it's good, just make enough episodes to get syndicated reruns. I call it "assembly line TV production".

Given Byron Allen is behind this one, I wish I could say I'm surprised. He's cornered the market on generic low-budget syndication.

Yes, the talent is much better than the writing. This show could be so much better.

reply

When did this show come on? And on what network? This looks like something out of TVONE or MyNetwork with the Tyler Perry crap. Just watching this now on CW and, yeah you guys are right; it's not working. I like the girl, though; she looks like a young Tatyana Ali. And I like the veteran actors but they're given really bad material.

How do I find out what channel it airs on in my market?

reply

The EntertainmentStudios.com site, maybe? I know most syndicated shows have a list of markets that air them. I sometimes go to TV Guide's online site and just use the search box there...

does anyone know where i can download episode 1-3???

please email me at [email protected]

thanks!

It doesn't air in my area on CW at all. I was trying to catch this but I've heard it isn't that good. I wanted to check out Mr Box Office too.

reply

I know it's several months later, but just a thought: when I lived in Atl I found that a lo of the CW content and the "My Network TV (it has different names but it is usually My____) content were interchanged frequently. So wherever you are you should check it out. Even though as others are saying this show is terrible.

reply

This show is crap. It's corny and that laugh track is on non-stop like every other line is funny. I kinda feel bad for John Witherspoon, Jackee and Marla Gibbs - they're way better than this sh*t. We need to start a petition to stop Byron Allen and Tyler Perry from creating shows..hell, anything really.

reply

Just like Mr. Box Office, this show has a great cast, but mediocre writing and production values, but is what brings these shows down. Imagine, if they had the writing and productions of shows like 30 Rock, The Middle, or major network shows, these shows could become classics.

reply

I caught an episode and there was not one part of it that made me laugh. The script was just boring.

reply

How can I put this lightly? This show is crap. Pure crap. Not funny at all and a complete waste. The cast can make it work if the writing was better, but someone needs to kill this show. Plus, is it me or do some of the actors on this show look weird? Almost like they're artificial or something. Too much makeup might be the reason. I don't know.

Anyhow, crappy, horrible, not funny, and a waste of time.

I disagree. I love the show.
