I'm sure it's fine, BUT...

Look, I'm sure this is a good game. It's gotten very decent reviews and the one person I know whose played it says it's his second-favorite game in the franchise. I read through the story synopsis and have watched a lot of footage. It seems like a good game.

But I just still feel like this was a fundamentally unneeded reboot, and I wish we could have gotten an official Devil May Cry 5. The old series was more of a bi-product of its time, I will admit (and even some of the basic mechanics and storytelling feels antiquated now), and the series was going to have to make some changes, but it just bothers me. I spent four games over seven years growing attached to the characters, style, gameplay, etc. only for it to be tossed aside for a reboot that just doesn't feel like it adds or improves much over the original.

I'm going to buy this after I buy the original trilogy's HD edition and play through the first four games again. And I'll probably love it. But I'm always going to have that "What if we had a part 5 instead of the reboot?" question at the back of my head.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

DMC's been rebooted so there's nothing fans can do about it now. However, what bugs me is that if DMC had to get rebooted then I wish we could have gotten a better game out of it. DmC is okay...but it's nothing amazing. The original series contained it's own share of average/poor games (Devil May Cry 2, for example), but we also got some really great games too (like DMC3).

Personally, I feel DMC3 was what saved the franchise after the weak sequel (even making up for it) and drew a lot more people to the series. So why couldn't DmC have been like this? Even though I hated the thought of a reboot, I still wanted DmC to be something great (since it is the start of a new Devil May Cry franchise). Instead it's just an average game. It's not bad, but it's not amazing either.

Still, I hope one day the creators return to the original series and make a DMC5. At least to answer some questions brought up in previous games and to give the series an official ending.

I've actually read recently that Capcom is interested in potentially returning to the original series and giving us a proper Devil May Cry 5, after DmC failed to sell as well as they had hoped. (In fact, I think it's sold significantly less than Devil May Cry 4 did, and at a much slower rate than Capcom originally projected)

I have to say, I hope they decide to go ahead with that. I've enjoyed what I've played of DmC, but it still feels like far too unneeded a reboot to me.
