Well put together, good production values, campy in all the right places

This smacked of retro-futurism and golden age science fiction in all the right ways. On top of this, the acting was above-average for a SyFy show, the patter of the dialogue was fun and engaging, and story moved with a clip and alacrity that's not common for today's turgid six-seasons-and-a-movie style. People hated it, perhaps for the last reason - it's so against the grain of the ultra-gritty, super-serious, grimdark television of the last ten years that it probably hit most people like a slap in the face.

Compared to SyFy contemporaries like Ascension, Dark Matter and Killjoys this pilot stood head-and-shoulders above those offerings. A shame it never got its chance to stretch its legs and act on the promise this pilot showed. Certainly deserves better than its 5.1 rating.
