Hasn't it already been estabilshed that Ryan Reynolds does not have...

... the emotional range to take on these kinds of dramas? Who keeps financing these doomed enterprises?

Buried. The Voices. Chaos Theory. Fireflies in the garden. Guess again.

"The Voices" and "Chaos Theory" are comedies. Comedy is definitely in Ryan Reynolds wheelhouse. His dramas are awful. Do I need to state this a third time or is your reading comprehension going to improve?

reply

If you think a movie being classified as a comedy means there are no elements of drama in the performances (especially in those which are established 'dramedies')
Then you really don't know anything about acting and should not be talking in the first place.

reply

chaos theory isn't comedy.... dramedy if anything. but that ain't a comedic movie, at all...
and that poster didn't even mention the nines.... ryan reynolds can do drama, really really well....

It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack. Not rationality...

reply

And as every intelligent person knows, no comedy EVER needed any emotional range, therefore just labeling them "comedies" takes them totally out of consideration for deciding whether Mr Reynolds has "emotional range".

What a foolish, foolish thing to say.

... and Smokin' Aces, Safe House, Amityville Horror...

Ryan Reynolds is a good, underrated actor. Much like Brad Pitt back in the 90's...

It's hard to see Ryan in a drama, I'm not saying The Amityville Horror was bad, but I found it kinda hard to see him as the crazy he was trying to portray. I thought he was great in the Proposal..Smart a$$ roles are his best. there are most likely more but I haven't sen them.

You forgot to mention that he was in the remake of Amityville Horror as the bad tempered father. He did an OK job of that role. I just think he is an average actor overall.

reply

exactly!! lol i hope maybe this will be watchable

I don't know, I really enjoyed Safe House.

I did find it interesting, however:
One of the critic reviews compared Ryan's career to that of Matthew McConaughey (prior to Dallas Buyer's Club, True Detective...) -- with his good looks and recurring rom-com roles, etc.
The critic pointed to this movie as Ryan's showcase of his "serious" talent. Now, I can't say I'm convinced that this film is going to be the one that turns his career around, but I'm open to the possibility of such a turn-around in the future if he can dedicate himself to his own cause.

reply

It's not fair to draw comparisons to MM. Remember that he was a serious actor before he fell into the RomCom pit (though, who can blame him for going there? He got to star with sexy actresses and made A LOT of money in the process). Amistad... A Time to Kill... Contact. The mid-nineties gave a small sample of what MM was capable of. RR has yet to produce a movie that could reasonably elevate him from mere "heart throb" status, into a comparison with any of the Hollywood elite.

reply

he did an adequate job in this

They said the same thing about Brad Pitt for 10 years.

reply

I'm not either a friend or foe for Ryan Reynolds. I probably have missed many of the rom coms though. Not my thing......
But I think you are wrong about his range.
Several of the movies I've seen him in have proven you wrong, including this one.

Agreed.

and the movie got a cheap looking feeling

so it propably dint cost a lot of money

Is everyone taking crazy pills? Reynolds is a fabulous actor! He can do any genre and nail it.

IMO, he was the best thing in this awful movie. Mireille Enos overacted and I loved her in The Killing. And Rosario Dawson was laughable. The guy who played the kidnapper worked hard, but he was soooo creepy, he should have been a suspect immediately.
