From now on I'm checking here before investing time in a movie.

Yesterday I waste two house watching Transcendence and today it's The Captive. I have to start looking for IMDb feedback before starting a movie. Earlier this week I did gamble on the Nic Cage movie, Joe. It was a slow moving character piece but they were real real developed characters so that's cool.

IMDb is the new stinker squasher!

Netflix has a pretty reliable star system. I only watch movies 4 stars or above...only go to 3 stars if theres nothing to watch and I've only seen good movies so far. This is why being super critical is good for the movie industry. I have friends that give good ratings for movies that are really bad only because of its "artistic value" and I tell them that's not how any of this works. That's why amazon movie reviews are all almost 5 stars

I'm sorry you wasted two houses.

Good luck with that.

If I relied on IMDb ratings I'd have missed this gem and watched Straight outta Compton. (I did see that in the theater based on IMDb ratings btw). :/

I barely remember this being released a couple of years ago. Not sure if it even played in any theaters nearby. Watched it tonight however, and was really impressed. Compelling, intense, and genuinely disturbing.

I try to avoid reading reviews now. There are so many films I've liked over the years that I would've missed if I'd listened to the critics -- including this one.
